Beijing Haidian Kaiwen Academy Receives Parent-Donated Humanoid Robots, Empowering the Future Intelligence Lab and Top Talent Programs

Date:2025-12-09 | View:

On November 17, 2025, Beijing Haidian Kaiwen Academy received a generous donation of two humanoid robots from current parent Dr. Xiong Youjun. The donation will strongly support the school’s work in top talent cultivation and innovation education, providing cutting-edge resources for Kaiwen students to engage in robotics engineering research and competition projects.

Principal Yongyuan Li of Beijing Haidian Kaiwen Academy and Dr. Youjun Xiong attended the donation ceremony. On behalf of Haidian Kaiwen Academy, Principal Li expressed sincere gratitude to the parent. This donation not only reflects families’ recognition of Kaiwen Academy’s educational philosophy, but also injects new momentum into the school’s newly established “Future Intelligence Lab” and its exploration in future-oriented STEM and AI education.

Dr. Youjun Xiong currently serves as General Manager of the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center (National–Local Joint Embodied Intelligence Innovation Center), and is Co-Founder & CTO of UBTECH Robotics. He is a senior engineer, recipient of the State Council’s Special Government Allowance, and a leading figure with more than 20 years of experience in R&D management and industrialization in humanoid robotics and embodied intelligence.

Dr. Xiong has led multiple major national-level research projects, including the National 863 Program, the Ministry of Science and Technology Innovation Fund, and major AI projects under the National Development and Reform Commission.

Under his leadership, iconic products such as the Alpha robot series and the large biped humanoid robot Walker have repeatedly appeared on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala and become widely recognized “phenomenal” products.

In 2024, his team launched the general-purpose humanoid robot platform “Embodied Tiangong,” the world’s first full-sized, pure-electric humanoid running robot, drawing global attention. Its upgraded model, “Embodied Tiangong Ultra,” went on to win both the world’s first humanoid robot half-marathon championship and the World Humanoid Robot Games 100-meter title in 2025.

In the field of embodied intelligence, Dr. Xiong led the development of the world’s first “one brain, multi-task; one brain, multi-robot” general embodied intelligence platform “Huisi Kaiwu.” Robots equipped with this platform, such as “Tianyi,” won 1 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze in practical events at the first World Humanoid Robot Games.

Dr. Xiong’s donation is a strong endorsement of Kaiwen Academy’s educational philosophy. As a representative of “strong academics” among Beijing’s international schools, Beijing Haidian Academy – Haidian Kaiwen Academy is committed to expanding high-quality educational resources and platforms for students, continuously upgrading subject development and talent cultivation systems.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, the school officially launched the “Future Intelligence Lab (Future Intelligence Center)” this academic year. The lab aims to provide students with more opportunities and resources to access cutting-edge courses and hands-on projects.

The Future Intelligence Lab focuses on:

– Computer science, robotics, and AI courses

– Guiding students through end-to-end project experiences from ideation, design, building, to testing

– Cultivating innovation, logical thinking, engineering mindset, and hands-on abilities

– Supporting students to grow into future engineers, scientists, and problem solvers

A 12-Year Continuous Pathway for Top Talent Development

Haidian Kaiwen Academy follows a 12-year continuous approach to top talent cultivation:

– Solid foundations in the lower grades

– Personalized, differentiated development in the upper grades

To achieve this, the school has built a coherent and diverse course system, integrates high-quality external resources, and supports high-ability students in national and international academic competitions and research projects—including the five major Olympiad disciplines—ensuring that “no student’s talent is wasted.”

In computer science and robotics, Beijing Haidian Kaiwen Academy has created a vertically aligned curriculum from primary to high school, built upon:

– School-based core courses

– Interest-based after-school enrichment courses

– Competitive school teams

The program includes compulsory and elective courses in ICT, computer science, wood/metal workshop, and robotics engineering, as well as after-school classes in artificial intelligence, Python, C++, and more.

These courses support students in:

– Exploring academic interests

– Building strong portfolios for university applications in CS, engineering, and related fields

– Gaining real project and research experience

One example is Johnson Zhu, a 2024 graduate of Haidian Kaiwen Academy, now double majoring in Computer Science and Sociology at Duke University. He entered Kaiwen in Grade 6 and discovered his academic passion through exploration at school.

While at Kaiwen Academy, Johnson initiated and led a “Mouth-Controlled Mouse” project aimed at helping individuals with upper-limb disabilities access the internet more easily. The project received a Utility Model Patent from the China National Intellectual Property Administration, demonstrating how Kaiwen’s environment nurtures meaningful, impact-driven innovation.

Robotics and Informatics Competition Teams and Achievements

Building on its curricular foundation, Kaiwen Academy has formed multiple competition teams in computer science, informatics, and robotics engineering:

– Primary school VEX GO and VEX IQ teams

– Middle school VEX VRC team

– Middle and high school informatics teams

– Middle and high school NSL STEM alliance teams

– High school FTC robotics team

Students have achieved excellent results in the WRC World Robot Contest, FTC Robotics Challenge, NSL STEM Alliance competitions, and more.

Dr. Xiong’s donated robots will also be integrated into future research projects and international competitions. The school plans to develop “Booster K1 Quick Start and Deployment Practice” courses to support participation in events such as RoboCup Humanoid Soccer.

Comprehensive Initiatives for Elite and Talented Students

Beijing Haidian Kaiwen Academy has launched multiple initiatives to strengthen top talent cultivation:

– July 2024 – Top Talent Development Forum & “Elite Program” Launch
A program offering personalized development plans leveraging high-quality academic and social resources.

– Fall 2024 – “Jingrun Mathematics Featured Class” (Primary School)
Featuring strong mathematics, foreign-teacher English instruction, and Olympiad-style logical thinking.

– 2025–2026 – New “Talented Program” (Primary School)
