Mr. Li Yongyuan, Headmaster of Beijing Haidian Kaiwen Academy, and the parent of Johnson Zhu, a graduate of HDKWA’s Class of 2024 attended the donation ceremony
On September 27, 2024, the parent of Johnson Zhu, a graduate of HDKWA’s Class of 2024, donated RMB 200,000 to the Beijing Haidian Education Foundation. The donation will be specifically used to support the cultivation of top innovative talents at Beijing Haidian Kaiwen Academy (HDKWA), helping more HDKWA students approach to their dreams.
Mr. Li Yongyuan, Headmaster of HDKWA, attended the donation ceremony together with the donating parent. Mr. Li expressed his deep gratitude for the parent’s selfless support. This donation not only reflects the recognition of the school’s educational work by alumni and their parents but also injects strong momentum into the school’s efforts to cultivate innovative talents and future leaders. HDKWA will make full use of these funds to provide students with more diverse and higher-quality educational resources, inspiring more students to pursue excellence and contribute to the society.
Johnson Zhu is an outstanding graduate of HDKWA’s Class of 2024. He came to HDKWA in Grade 6 and eventually received an offer from Duke University to double major in Computer Science and Sociology. During his time at HDKWA, Zhu won multiple awards, including the Platinum Award in the USA Computing Olympiad and the school’s Special Scholarship. He initiated and led the "Mouth-Controlled Mouse" project, aiming to help individuals with upper limb disabilities or amputations overcome barriers to internet access. The research results of this project were granted a utility model patent by the National Intellectual Property Administration.
HDKWA has always been committed to providing high-quality educational resources and platforms to stimulate students’ potential and cultivate talents with a sense of national identity and global perspective. This donation from Johnson Zhu’s parent is undoubtedly the greatest affirmation and support for HDKWA’s educational philosophy.
The donated funds will be specifically used to support the school’s work in cultivating top innovative talents, including scientific research projects, international competitions, academic exchanges, and other activities.
In July, 2024, HDKWA held a forum on the cultivation of top innovative talents and launched the "Elite Program". Mr. Li announced a series of plans to integrate the school’s superior resources. HDKWA will collaborate with Duke Kunshan University, the Beijing Youth Science and Technology Education Association, and other institutions to provide students with more personalized and customized training programs, academic support in courses and scientific research, helping the students strive for admission to world-top universities.
The ”Elite Program” is open students who had won school’s Comprehensive Academic Scholarship and the Year-End Outstanding Leadership Award. Based on the characteristics of each grade level, the program will adopt progressive and grade-appropriate special training method, providing academic resource support such as international research and high-level competitions. Meanwhile, the school will continue to strengthen cooperation with renowned universities and research institutions both domestically and internationally to offer students more high-quality academic resources and practical opportunities.
