Thus, we have spared no effort in holding this Open Day, and wish to show you all Kaiwen has to offer.
Let’s get to know each other so that we can make a sensible mutual choice.
Beijing Kaiwen Academy held a grand Open Day on December 16, 2017. Hundreds of families visited the school that day.
The Open House showed Kaiwen people’s sincerity and thoughtfulness in all aspects, from school introduction to admissions counseling, from demo classes to art and sports activities, and from rich, wonderful subject exhibitions to Santa Clauses, who gave everyone happy surprises. “You’ll really come to love this place once you’ve made a trip here,” said the visiting parents.
01 A wonderful talent show
Kaiwen is distinctive for its art education, among other things. The day before the Open House, the school held a grand Christmas party. With the same unbridled passion of the previous night, Kaiwen teachers and students presented a wonderful talent show for the visiting families.
02 Remarks by school leaders
In her opening speech at the Open House, Executive Principal of KWA Ms. Zhou Zhaoyu elaborated on the school’s education concepts. “As a member of the Tsinghua University High School Integrated International Schools, KWA has abided by the “Tsinghua Spirit” and taken cultivating talented leader-type people with Chinese roots and international perspectives as its mission,” emphasized Principal Zhou.

Academic Principal Wang Shi, Deputy Academic Principal Donald Miller, Primary School Head Michael Shimshak, and Secondary School Head Rufus Samkin spoke in detail about the school’s curriculum features, curriculum system, faculty, and teaching methods, which are a combination of Chinese and Western elements.
Principal Wang Shi stressed that with strength drawn from the “Tsinghua Spirit”, Kaiwen is providing “fine and flexible” high-end international education. The school has combined high-quality Chinese and international education concepts and created a world-class international education environment to cultivate global citizens with leadership qualities for the future world.
03 Demo classes for students in all learning stages
At the Open House, Kaiwen held demo classes of a dozen core courses and art and sports courses for students in all learning stages, including Chinese, math, English, history, science, fine arts, music, golf, baseball, fencing, and more. Children were able to experience Kaiwen’s way of teaching in a classroom, which will prepare them for studying at Kaiwen in the future.
“The teacher is very patient. The class is particularly interesting. I have been learning fencing and I really like Kaiwen’s Fencing Hall,” said a 6th grader surnamed Jiang, who came to Kaiwen for the first time and was immediately attracted by teacher Jamie’s lively and interesting way of teaching.
04 Inspiring co-curricular activities
The demo classes at the Open House were conducted on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Those students and parents who were unable to attend a demo class may experience Kaiwen’s exciting co-curricular activities at the school’s Arts Center and gymnasiums.
Courses on 3D printing, calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, creative thinking, and printmaking (woodcuts) were provided at the same time. Students could choose their favorite course or take a look at the array of student work and subject activity photos displayed along the corridors of the school’s teaching buildings.
05 Comprehensive admissions counseling
Admissions counseling was what concerned the parents the most at the Open House. At the site, Kaiwen leaders and teachers of different divisions and subjects patiently answered admissions-related questions that the parents raised. At the same time, Q&A leaflets were handed out to explain in detail some basic issues concerning the school.
06 Little surprises everywhere
Six teachers dressed up as Santa Claus in six different places of the school. Children got a lovely stamp from the Santa Claus when they visited each of these places. When they had collected all six stamps, they could exchange them for a gift.
Kaiwen was fully open during the Open House. We had teachers and volunteers at cafeterias, dormitories, science labs, and the Arts Center to provide detailed explanations so that the parents and students could learn more about the school.
See you in 2018!
