Role playing, classic reading, bingo games, buddy reading, spelling bees.... Have you tried these fun English learning methods? Last week, students at Kaiwen Academy (Haidian) were playing just these games every day after school. The English teachers’ creative ideas made students realize that English learning could be fun.
As a bilingual private school that offers internationally advanced education for Grades 1-12, English is naturally one of the key courses at Kaiwen Academy. How to mobilize students’ enthusiasm for learning English and how to make English learning more interesting while enriching the learning content have become an important part of course design for Kaiwen English teachers.
Kaiwen “English Week”, which was organized in the form of games and competitions, has not only exercised students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities, but also allowed them to experience the fun of English learning and harvest precious friendships.
Caring Buddy Reading
Buddy Reading is one of Kaiwen students’ favorite activities. It is also a “cross-division” learning experience for Kaiwen Academy’s secondary and primary school students. Secondary school students came to the primary school, changing from nice seniors to responsible “instructors.” They exchanged reading experience and English learning methods with lower grade students. Each classroom was full of creative ideas and fun, adding a touch of love to the early-winter Kaiwen.
Interesting Werewolves Role Playing Game
Fun games were naturally an indispensable part of the English Week. Teachers and students played Werewolves Role Playing Game, People Bingo, and People Scavenger Hunt together, which left the students with a memorable impression. Without rigid classroom models and forced knowledge instillation, teachers and students exchanged views in a more relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, which made language learning a thing that just happened naturally. As English teacher Jennifer said, English learning entails the right methods, but more importantly, the right atmosphere. We need to make English learning interesting so that our students will learn independently and achieve the best learning results.
Exciting Spelling Bee
Spelling Bee was the most exciting game of the English Week. It had the longest duration and widest coverage. As a world-renowned game, Spelling Bee was popular with Kaiwen students for its visual art and fun.
The game lasted a week and a half from the qualifying and preliminaries, to the finals. The organizer had to postpone the final for a week because of the students’ outstanding performance and the fiercer-than-expected competition. Eventually, ninth grader Shelly won the championship, sixth grader Sissi took silver, and seventh grader Cecilia took bronze at the 1st Annual Kaiwen Academy Spelling Bee.
Kaiwen “English Week” has concluded. Next we will hold the “Math Carnival.” Kaiwen students, we look forward to your outstanding performances.
