从未停止的挑战步伐|海淀凯文美国STEM大联盟中国赛获奖

2018年12月15-16日,在2019赛季美国STEM大联盟中国赛中,海淀凯文的两支代表队在和来自北京汇文中学、上海中学国际部、南京第一中学、华南师范大学附属中学、长沙玮希国际学校等15所学校的30 支车队的较量中脱颖而出,取得团队总分奖的第三名、车队形象展示演讲的第一名、弯道圈速挑战的第二名、耐力比拼挑战的第二名,另外北京海淀凯文学校还荣获PBL教学法先锋学校。


 
美国STEM大联盟(National STEM League)是美国最具创新和最受学生热爱的 STEM 活动之一。比赛要求学生运营一家属于自己的科技赛车公司,通过学习PBL 设计课程、担任不同的决策角色来完成各项协作挑战。至今为止已经成功举办了15 届,美国众多知名大学如芝加哥大学、约克大学、伦斯勒理工学院等均承办过 NSL。

在奥巴马政府时期,美国进一步加强STEM教育的发展,其中NSL便是在全美中学被大力推广的优质STEM活动之一。

海淀凯文学校也将STEAM教育理念贯穿在K1-12年级的全学科教学中。除了引进STEM课程体系之外,还开设了多门STEM方向的拓展课程,本次参赛的队员均来自竞速智能车(Racing Ten80)拓展课。

紧张刺激的比赛瞬间

“30、8、4”看似简单的数字,却是此次比赛中凯文学子致胜的关键。4个月的Ten80拓展课程以车为主线,引导同学们学习相关的数学和物理知识、探究智能车的机械系统的“逆向工程”;还锻炼了同学们的动手实践和主动思考能力,大家设计了logo并拍摄了30秒的介绍视频。
 
系统化的学习过程、各司其职的团结协作使得队员们出色地完成了8分钟的竞赛演讲内容,获得了评委们的一致好评。

Louise Roberts老师强调参赛是检验能力和展示成果的过程,学生在日常学习中收获了更多。
“Through the Ten80 program,we are seeking to find the leaders of the future, at Kaiwen Academy, by providing the students with lifelong skills. We provide the guidance to help students to think for themselves and become independent learners, this will have a great impact on all their learning skills across every discipline, not just STEM activities. Students will perfect their interdisciplinary attributes enabling them to work in a diverse and multicultural society.”

In this Shanghai competition, I learned a lot of things. I’m the engineer of the team and Andy was also the engineer. When our driver Kevin was driving the car, I and Andy needed to pay attention that if the car had some problems. 
When Kevin competed for the competition, there were lots of problems occurred. In the beginning, the car went very fast, but after a while, the car moved very slow. Then, I and Andy thought it was the problem of battery. So, we changed the battery and charged the unused one. 
And, in the middle of the competition, the body of the car fell. We put the body on the car and assembled it properly. The teacher told us some skills to fix the car and for the drivers how to drive the car. We learned a lot and used them in the competition. In the 8 minutes speech, we matched ourselves up and had our speech.
Finally, we had a good score in this competition, because we put our efforts into this competition. I think it’s good to challenge ourselves and communicate with others.


王淳谊

This competition our group did a great job, but we can do better. 
When we are doing the presentation, the judges said we still have room to grow. First, we have less experience than the other high school group,so we need to practice more. Next thing that we can prove better is making the judges more immersive. We can put more photo or videos about what we are talking about and show them in the presentation. The last thing is self-confidence. In this presentation, some of us are afraid to spoke to the judges. We need to have more courage and speak what we want to say boldly. 
When we get to the competition, we find a lot of problems we never mentioned before. We trying to fix them ourselves, and we fix some of them. But we also have some problem we can’t fix. So, we asked other team’s advice and some coach’s advice. 
We are not just playing there, but also learn something from the older team. That is good for our team, and I hope our team gets a much better result next time.
 

周子轩
At this competition, I learn many new things. Just something I didn’t try it before. My teammate and I done many new things. I designed the logo; our drivers drove the car and our team’s engineer fixed the car. I am very happy because we can do it together and we are in harmony. 
First, I draw very bad, but I use technology, my laptop to draw. Then I can do it well. Now I can draw very well at the laptop. And I have a clearer idea in my brain. That very good for me. Also, at others subject, I can use it.
After the competition, I feel very respect that the high school is really very good. Their score was fast than our times 10. I know if we want a win in America. We should do more train. We will do better in the future.
That’s what I think.

来自美国的机械结构专家们在现场提供专业的学术及技术指导,帮助学生更好地了解赛车机械结构、学习撰写工程报告。同时,同学们还和来自奔驰、陶氏等世界 500 强企业的评委以及汽车、无人驾驶、人工智能等领域的专家面对面交流。
 

正像韩老师说的:“ students didn’t only ‘play and drive’ with the car, but also challenged themselves a lot.” 学习独立思考并解决问题、感受团队合作的力量、经历奋斗的过程,这是凯文学生正在收获的。他们在竞赛中不断突破、不断试炼,并向更高的目标发起挑战。
