The second semester of the 2017-2018 school year at Beijing Kaiwen Academy (KWA) came to an end amidst the singing of cicadas. On June 15, the KWA End-of-term Co-curricular Courses Report-back Exhibition and Performance was staged at the school’s auditorium. The teachers, students, and parents present got to enjoy the students’ wonderful performances and creative science and art work.
Accompanied by the melodious tune of Guzheng, Grade 1-2 students who took the Sinology course chanted “Zhu Zi’s Family Maxims” in unison. One of the Maxims reads, “Never envy others’ joys and take pleasure in others’ misfortune.”
“The Grade 1-2 stage is a crucial period for children’s educational enlightenment and is the best time for them to learn language, form self-consciousness, and establish a preliminary cultural system. So we opened Sinology as a co-curricular course to guide students in understanding ancient ways of self-cultivation and family management. The course can enrich students’ cultural knowledge, let them have traditional Chinese virtues, and improve their literature literacy and personal qualities,” said Shen Ling, a teacher from the Chinese Group of KWA primary school, on the school’s purpose in offering the Sinology course.
Music students played the violin and piano at the event. The beautiful melodies lingered long in people’s minds.
Clapping, boxing, tripping, grappling, suppressing, crotch lift, crossed high leg kick, bowing.... Jujitsu is about instant explosive power, the beauty of strength, respecting teachers, and observing etiquette. Jujitsu students brought the house down with their wonderful confrontational performance.
Drama students brought the sidesplitting stage drama “Shrek”, teacher Julia’s creative adaptation from the well-known classic animated film of the same name. Familiar characters, surprising plots, and a vivid performance fascinated the audience.
Dance students livened up the auditorium with their passionate dances. Infected by the fiery atmosphere, several young students in the audience could not help but dance along.
Colorful comics, weaving, costumes, flower arrangements, and floral work, traditional Chinese paintings, sculptures, and calligraphy work won thumbs-up from the parents.
This semester, KWA opened a total of 66 co-curricular courses for Grade 1-8 students, covering sports, arts, culture, science and technology, life, and STEAM. KWA will offer more wonderful co-curricular courses next semester to give students more choices. We look forward to our students shining on KWA’s stage again!
