Improve Safety for Healthy Growth | HKWA Fire Safety Drill

发布时间:2019-09-28 | 浏览次数:

Take care of the fire before it happens.

Remember that security is the top principle,

Fire safety is with us as we grow up,

Let us create a safe, civilized and harmonious school together!

To raise students awareness of fire safety and improve their self-help ability and the school’s fire safety work, HKWA organized a fire safety drill on September 27, 2019 in the form of simulation and interactive experience. Students had “smoke and heat escape experience, simulated fire-fighting experience, bandaging and hemostasis experience and life-saving knot experience in different zones. A total of nearly 1,000 students listened to the explanations and lecture to get familiar with relevant knowledge and operation approaches, improving their self-protection ability to ensure personal and property safety.

Smoke and heat escape experience

The smoke escape room simulates a smoky, dark and sweltering scene during the fire. Under the guidance of instructors, the students covered their mouths and noses with clothes and towels and entered the tent in an orderly way to experience. They bent down and groped along the evacuation signs orderly, and were finally evacuated from the safety exit to the outside of the tent.

HKWA students experienced how to escape from the fire scene correctly and from the smoke and darkness of the fire scene, improving their actual experience and learned good self-help and escaping skills.

Simulated fire-fighting experience

Around the simulated fire-fighting drill zone, the “flames” in two fire simulation instruments jumped straight up. The instructors explained how to use the fire extinguisher and stressed that Firefighting must be carried out on the premise of ensuring your own safety, and you must stand in the wind direction.

The students stepped forward orderly to perform the virtual fire extinguishing: first, pull out the safety pin of the simulated fire extinguisher, holding the opening handle with one hand and the nozzle at the front of the spray hose with the other hand. The nozzle of the virtual fire extinguisher gushed light. Where the light swept away, the red light disappeared on the curtain simulating the flame, and soon the flame died.

Through the drill, students felt the pressure of fire extinguishers, knew the usage instructions and learnt to choose appropriate fire extinguishers in different scenes.

Bandaging and hemostasis experience

In experiencing the bandaging and hemostasis, students learnt about the classification of bleeding, the manifestation of blood loss, common hemostasis methods, and hemostasis methods in outdoor sports and how to properly bandage. They remembered the four basic essentials of bandage should be done quickly; the wound should not move after being covered correctly; do not touch the wound; and make sure to bandage firmly”, and improved their necessary rescue skills and the awareness and ability of self-help.

“I hope that the students can better deal with all kinds of accidental injuries and give effective help when others are hurt or even their lives are in danger,” said the instructors.

Life-saving knot experience

When the fire cannot be extinguished, one must consider escaping. If there is a long rope nearby, the rope can be tied to an escape knot so that one can escape smoothly. Ropes may be used in rescue, escape or other circumstances. It is of great significance to learn the knotting technique.

The “life-saving knot experience” allowed students to use the resources around them, such as towels, sheets and curtains to make knots out of ropes to escape safely.Double 8-shaped knots can play a fixed role and the double flat knots can play a connecting role.” The students skillfully wove knots under instructions.

Richard Zhang, deputy director of the student center, who was in charge of the event, summed it up, “students have learned many skills and improved their awareness of safety. I hope they can protect themselves and have a safe life!”

The students learned about safety knowledge, mastered emergency escape methods and improved their skills in using fire-fighting equipment in this drill. Now they are better at responding to emergencies and have stronger self-help ability. As they said, “The experience really impressed us, and we have acquired more knowledge of fire!” Safety will accompany us all the way in life.
