Sports are among the core of Haidian Kaiwen Academy education, which offers colorful PE courses by integrating international educational resources in sports.

Visits of baseball stars bring the students closer to their baseball dream and even shower rain cannot stop them from devotion.

In baseball trainings, the students learn not only techniques, but also philosophy of life: “Baseball can tell you what life is”, --- facing the ups and downs in life with great calmness.

On June 4, with the visit of baseball star Raymond Chang, the baseball field of Haidian Kaiwen Academy was as hot as the weather.

Raymond Chang, former best shortstop of China national baseball team, played in the WBC on behalf of China three times. In 2017, he announced retirement after the WBC and joined the MLB Development Center as chief coach.

As the baseball advisor of Haidian Kaiwen Academy, he met the coaches for training and guidance in the morning and answered their questions in details.

He also joined the baseball class of the day. While watching, he expressed recognition of the class: “Your drill is fun. I want to play!” Then he enjoyed the fun of baseball together with the students.

In the afternoon, prior to the drill of the school team, Raymond arrived at the field ahead of schedule to surprise the students. Seeing their idol on the spot, the arriving students excitedly ran to him with glove in hand. Raymond also picked up the ball to play, with joyful laughter all over the field.

When it was time for drill, the students soon got fully devoted. Impressed by their passion, Raymond also got engaged, pitching in the U12 batting drill, throwing in the U8 catching drill and guiding the students for their moves.

After the drill, Raymond shared with the students his experience with baseball. On the night of the day when he was informed of the opportunity of finally playing at MLB, he was accidentally injured in games and missed the opportunity. Years afterwards, when he shared this with the students of Kaiwen, he said: “Baseball can tell you what life is.” It’s important to face the ups and downs in life with great calmness and this is also Raymond’s personal experience at those hard times. What we can harvest from baseball is not only techniques, but also philosophy of life.

We believe that Raymond Chang’s guidance for drill and sharing of experience at Haidian Kaiwen Academy will be valuable treasure for the students. Through the face-to-face communication with the baseball star, the students have the chance to know top baseball player in person, which will make them clearer for target in baseball and firmer in pursuing dreams.
