Mind-broadening classes: we are pursuing our dreams on the road

发布时间:2019-05-05 | 浏览次数:

Trips to various venues, discussions, practices, and after-trip presentations combine to form special mind-broadening classes at Haidian Kaiwen Academy. They integrate education resources on and off campus, natural sciences with social sciences, as well as knowledge with social practices to promote the all-round quality and development of student and help them grow to leaders with strong patriotism and international vision.

In April, 2019, the primary education department of Haidian Kaiwen Academy launched spring mind-broadening classes by organizing trips to Beijing Garden Expo Park, Tsinghua University and Beijing Botanical Garden. They search for the fun of learning in interaction and improve their core quality in trips for the goal of growing Kaiwen students with vision, knowledge, morality and ability to practice, the mission of the classes.

Beijing Garden Expo Park: protecting the environment

Human creates nature and nature shapes people.

By Carl Marx

On April 26, 2019, students of grade one at Haidian Kaiwen Academy went to the Beijing Garden Expo Park, where they played games and knowledge contests on environmental protection.

They took part in environmental protection and had their awareness improved. At the Beijing Garden, Jiangnan Garden, Fujian Garden, Guangzhou Garden and the Colorful Valley, students finished tasks of different themes, and received a certificate to pass the game. During the game, students worked with each other, and learned about ideas of protecting wetland, soil, water and air.

The planet is our common home. Caring for its environment is caring for human per se. Protecting nature is sustaining human beings. Students of Kaiwen Academy will continue to contribute to the global environment.

Tsinghua University: forging ahead

Tsinghua mottos: Self-discipline and great virtue

On April 23, 2019, students and teachers of grade two and three at Haidian Kaiwen Academy went to the Tsinghua University where they visited the art museum and the campus to learn about the cultural profundity and atmosphere of the prestigious university.

Romain Rolland once said that art is enjoyment and is the most enchanting kind. Tsinghua University Art Museum, with the mission of manifesting humanistic spirit, gathering artistic essence, cultivating new cultural trend and educating talents, was completed and open to public in 2016. It features a collection of some 13,000 exhibits, most of which come from the Academy of Arts & Design since 1956 and donations by Tsinghua alumni and some social elites.

Guided by the teachers, students of Kaiwen Academy visited exhibitions of calligraphy, painting, embroidery, porcelain, furniture and art crafts made by Tsinghua students. They read the pamphlets distributed by Tsinghua University and learned about the background, biography of painters and artists, the design and layout of the works, having a deeper understanding of art creation.

Flowers and woods send off the smell of nature. People and items present unique styles. In the tour to Tsinghua University, students made careful preparations. Each group has their own responsibilities and practiced tour explanatory scrips in Chinese and English in advance. They jointly learned the history, stories and mottoes of the university, and experience the intensive learning atmosphere and profound cultural foundation of Tsinghua, becoming more motivated to work hard guided by the goal of being enrolled by Tsinghua.

A gentleman should always strive to improve himself and foster himself with great virtue, as Chinese ancient wisdom says. The tour to Tsinghua enabled students to experience the academic atmosphere and long history of the university, and made them more determined to work hard. Wish students of Kaiwen to forge ahead with whole heart and create more glories in their future study and life.

Beijing Botanical Garden: passing on the classics

A grasp of mundane affairs is genuine knowledge, and understanding of worldly wisdom is true learning.

A dream in Red Mansions

On April 23, 2019, students of grade four and five at Haidian Kaiwen Academy started a tour to the former residence of Cao Xueqin and the cemetery of Liang Qichao in the Beijing Botanical Garden. This was a trip to carry on the classics and learn about plants.

Students and teachers of Kaiwen Academy visited the memorial house in commemoration of Cao Xueqin, which reproduces the living environment and the study of Cao when he wrote A Dream of Red Mansions. The memorial house displays documents about Cao’s life and residence. By visiting Cao’s former residence and reading historical materials, students knew Cao’s biography and how A Dream of Red Mansions was created. They have a deeper understanding of the literature masterpiece, which represents a milestone in the history of Chinese literature.

The year 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. It is an occasion to recall Liang Qichao’s words that the future of our nation is depending on us young Chinese. After the Cao Xueqin memorial house, students moved on to the cemetery of Liao Qichao. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, students had a better understanding of being alert to danger even in times of calmness and keeping our missions in mind on a beautiful spring day.

After that, they embarked on a tour around the botanical garden where they saw lilacs, magnolia and many perennial flowers. During the sightseeing, students recorded the features, living environments and other details about the plants. They sorted out information in forms or verses so that they can distinguish plants that are easily mistaken. They also made exquisite envelopes with leaves they picked up.

The trip to the Beijing Botanical Garden enables students to enjoy the beautiful natural scenes as well as cultural landscapes. It helps them to embrace the life and experience the beauty of life with a positive outlook. Better understanding of historical figures also helps develop their patriotism and enthusiasm for writing and studying. Wish students of Kaiwen Academy to continue exploring nature and find the highlights of life.

Embracing nature, exploring culture and returning to life

This is the ultimate goal of study in classroom

Out of classroom,

Life energy is under your footsteps

Let’s go and explore the “poets and dreams”
