On March 16, posts of the spring open day of Kaiwen’s Haidian campus went viral on parents WeChat circle of friends once again.

On March 16, Kaiwen Academy in Haidian district welcomed its grand spring open day. With warm spring breeze and blossoming flowers, more than 1,000 parents and students who recognize the spirits of Tsinghua University and the teaching philosophy of Kaiwen Academy, came to the campus while cherishing their dreams. They came for a hospitable reception to international education and to experience the charm of education infused Chinese and Western styles.

Demonstration event: flying like a demoiselle crane 

On the open day, the 700-seat auditorium and Lecture Theater in the Haidian campus of Kaiwen was filled up with visiting parents and students. Even those standing on the aisle would not miss the chance of learning about Kaiwen, have a glimpse of wonderful performances staged by students and teachers of the school, and listen to the introduction of school curriculum.

Headmaster Ms. Zhou Zhaoyu of the Haidian campus of Kaiwen gave parents a compete introduction to the mission, teaching philosophy, teachers and curriculum, and safety guarantee in the school. Ms. Zhou specifically mentioned demoiselle cranes, the symbol of the school. As she said, despite slightly different flight speed, the demoiselle crane has been fearless and strived to fly forward, showcasing just the quality of students in Kaiwen Academy.

Michael Shimshak, director of the primary education department, and Scott Reid, director of the secondary education department, gave detailed description on the curriculum systems and setups respectively. Zhang Lulu and Wendy Swanner, both head teachers for bilingual classes in the primary education department, Han Bing, director of higher school guidance, and parent representatives of Mr. Duan and Ms. Qiu shared their views on education in Kaiwen from different perspectives.

Demonstration class: from knowledge to fun

Kaiwen’s Haidian campus is characterized by quality education led by curricula of technology, art and P.E. Its demonstration class is also one of the highlights of the open day in Kaiwen. During this open day, visiting students experienced the classes of English, P.E., and Science in the primary education department; and those for the secondary education took demonstration classes of P.E., Math, English, Science, Music, Humanity, and IT.

The teachers meticulously prepared tailored classes for students of different learning stage. Students had fun in class and learned new knowledge in an entertaining, relaxed, and harmonious atmosphere. While acquiring new knowledge, they found delight in learning and turned the process into fun.

Consultation and interaction: face to face contacts 

During the on-site consultation, parents had a chance to make face-to-face exchanges with leaders of Kaiwen, teachers of each department and subject, administrative staff for enrollment and rear services. They better understood the curriculum setup, campus culture, facilities and teaching conditions of the school, and acquired more extensive information on Kaiwen.
